Finding Your Play Party: Consciously Exploring One’s Sexuality and Desires

Tia Lynn is a vibrant speaker, who by speaking out across her podcast, coaching practice and other public speaking engagements, is helping to shatter societal taboos around sexuality. Our recent conversation for the MINDBEND podcast, available now on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts etc., traversed the terrains of psychedelics, intimacy, and personal empowerment—a thematic cocktail with passages reminiscent at times of Hunter S. Thompson narrative, only with less fear and loathing, more embracing joy, and exploring.

The visionary behind the Sexy Biz Babe podcast, Tia captivates by living out loud. Her mission, embraced immediately upon first moving to Southern California from her native Utah, is to challenge norms and empower women to embrace their sexuality, which she believes can profoundly impact one’s happiness and success. The connective thread between her work and the psychedelic experiences we often dissect on Mindbend is unmistakable. Both realms beckon us to break free from our mental shackles—be it from societal norms or personal inhibitions. And in both arenas, informed guides are invaluable.

Tia is in reality, a modern-day psychedelic explorer, but as a public figure and journalist, her tools include words and wisdom just as much as psilocybin or LSD. She recounts her journey from the conservative echelons of Utah, where discussions about sex were cloaked in silence and shame. “Sex was very taboo,” she recalls, a social norm that left her and many others in the shadows of ignorance and judgment.

Diving deeper into the stigmas that bind, Tia shared a potent definition of shame as “the impulse to hide something.” It’s a simple yet profound explanation that resonates deeply with anyone who’s ever felt the urge to conceal their true selves to conform. This, she explains, is like carrying “bricks in a backpack”—a burden she is committed to helping others unload.

Our conversation joyfully wound between the sensual and the cerebral, exploring how early environments shape our understanding and expression of sexuality. Tia’s personal rebellion against the normative pressures of her youth was not just about defiance, but discovery. She embraced her uniqueness—bright lime green pants and all—in a world that often favors uniformity, and coloring within the lines.

Podcasting with a podcaster is always a trip, as Tia is deft at helping steer the narrative, and down to answer any query. Although recreational psychedelic usage is certainly part of her social circle, her coaching not only touches on intimacy but also integrates the transformative potential of psychedelics, reflecting a holistic approach to mental and sexual health.

Psychedelics and sex share a common frontier of stigma and mystery. Both are arenas where profound human experiences occur, yet societal acceptance remains elusive. Tia’s work, much like the mission of psychedelics, serves to illuminate the shadows, offering healing and understanding where there was once ignorance or fear.

Tia’s take on integrating psychedelic experiences into sexual and personal empowerment helped reinforce for me, why I keep seeking to draw attention to sex and sexuality as the non-ordinary consciousness state it can be, and equally powerful as medicine, with buttons to inspire growth through dedicated practice. Tia champions the use of psychedelics not just for exploration but for the tangible therapeutic benefits they can offer, and spoke of the ways that microdosing mushrooms has provided therapeutic benefit in her life, enhancing her own mindfulness and presence—qualities essential for a fulfilling sex life and a confident expression of sexual energy.

The boundaries between our minds, bodies, and the societal frameworks we navigate are often blurrier than we might assume. The same tools we use to explore the outer limits of consciousness—be it through LSD, psilocybin, or deep personal introspection, breathwork, meditation, and connected sex—are applicable to exploring the inner realms of our deep and multi-faceted identities.

I’m heartened to continue to come across individuals who evolve through trials to become more fully embodied as who they know themselves to be, even when that identity is something that makes others uneasy, for ideological reasons or plain old fashioned misunderstanding. And that’s one of the joys of podcasting, raising up the voices for others as we create an environment that holds space for our own mind bending inquiries, a life more examined and appreciated.
